VBS Prep Day

St. Matthews Lutheran School

Hello from Hong Kong and St. Matthews School as shown above!  I am writing this under Suzy's log-in but it is actually Sharon doing the posting tonight.  Today is the day we got to start our VBS preparations.  We met at 9 a.m. and broke off into our respective areas to get our rooms and materials in order.  Paul and I will be doing crafts, Suzy and Jinmei are doing games, Tyler will be handling snacks, and Jess and Peyton will be doing the drama or bible story for the day.  We will have 4 groups of kids rotating between these stations with an opening and closing too.
We got a huge surprise when 2 of the students from last year (Annie & Joanna) came up to pay us a visit!!!!  They were here at the school for testing and wanted to make sure to see us because they would not be able to later in the week.  What a wonderful gift to see them and their smiles just gave us such joy!  It was also a great validation for us that God's work here has already made an impression on these young people.
Wonderful visit from Annie and Joanna

The rest of the morning was spent learning songs, running through scripts, getting our costumes in order, and preparing our hearts and minds to spread God's love to his people.  Lunch was brought in for us by Jacquelyn who has become a wonderful friend (she is one of the teachers here).  Afterward it was back to finish the last of the details for the start of VBS tomorrow.

Tonight we got to venture out even further on our own to Langham Place (another mall area) in order to meet a group from Beautiful Savior to pick up our cross craft and a few other VBS items.  We not only took the bus but also had to switch and ride the MTR or train.  Most of our team ate at a place called Pepper Lunch which has become one of our favorites.  You get your food on a sizzling hot plate and the meat cooks as you walk back to the table...after which you flip it over to make sure both sides get done.  Some of us were really excited to use a spoon again for this meal!

We've heard through the grapevine that our wonderful church family back home has been kept up to date on our experiences and are keeping us in your prayers.  Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will guide our actions, words, and hearts as we reach out to those around us.  There are so many opportunities to share God's love and pray that we are wise enough to notice them and that they may bear fruit even after we leave here and return home.
Goodnight and God's peace to all.
