Hong Kong: The Sequel

Greetings from Hong Kong!

We apologize for the delay in blog posts, but let me assure you that we've been more than exhausted. While many of us wished we could have slept just a bit more on the plane ride across the pond, we arrived safely to the airport to be greeted by Dick, Mr. Ho, and his daughter. They picked us up at the airport and later got us settled back into our living quarters here at St. Matthews.

For those of us that came last year, we can agree that Hong Kong is already starting to feel like another home to us. The landscape and the city continue to become more and more familiar and the relationships we share with the people here have only grown stronger. Because of the many friendships we've been able to have with our hosts, our trip over here has almost just felt like leaving one home and traveling to another.

Yesterday (the 12th), was filled with several more reunions. Jacqueline and Jason took us out for an amazing noodle lunch in Lam Tin! It was fun to get to spend time with them, and lunch was filled with quite a few laughs. After we were finished, they took us to a market to browse for a bit and later to a park called Chi Lin Nunnery. There, it was neat to see a bit of traditional Chinese architecture mixed with the modern metropolis.

Later that afternoon, we met up with Monica and her daughter Iris, who would be taking us to the Peak. One of the highlights of the day was what Monica began to explain. She told us that we would have all new students this year at our VBS. Those that went last year were not allowed to sign up, in order to give many more students a chance to go. What was so amazing to hear was that last year's students have been encouraging this year's students. Monica says they've been telling them how much fun VBS was and that they would not want to miss it. It was tremendous to see the work God is doing in the hearts and minds of the children here after only one year of our mission. This news was encouraging and we can't wait to see what opportunities God presents with us this year.

After seeing the Peak and enjoying a great Vietnamese meal, we were ready to return back to the school. For several reasons that really aren't worth explaining, however, we traveled home by land and sea (literally), and the trip took nearly three hours. Needless to say, after climbing the seven flights of stairs back up to our rooms at the school, we were nothing short of exhausted. After a brief discussion and a short devotion, it was off to bed. While this trip home may have been tiring and possibly a bit frustrating, we are reminded of the many blessings God has given us to get here and the many opportunities he will present to us in the week to come.

You can expect another post tonight about today's events, along with possibly some more pictures from yesterday.

Chao!
